In this episode, ZAGENO’s Director of Product Marketing & Innovation, Julia Rabkin sits down with our Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, David Pumberger to discuss the evolution of ZAGENO’s life science marketplace.

David’s credentials in discussing the development of a complex e-commerce engine, suitable for the exacting needs of scientists stems from a number of experiences which occurred prior to ZAGENO. Most recently he held senior positions both with EY Management Consulting and PwC Management Consulting.

Before this, David spent nearly a decade in academia beginning as a Research Scientist and Teaching Assistant at ETH Zürich after which time he became a partner, trainer, and coach at Mathekurse.ch, where he developed mathematical and economics courses at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

David earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from ETH Zürich and a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Warwick.

Let's join Julia and David, as they discuss this very important topic.

Hello everyone. My name is Julia Rabkin and I am the Director of Product Marketing and Innovation at ZAGENO. I'm here, today with our Chief Product Officer and Co-founder, David Pumberger to talk about ZAGENO's marketplace and its evolution through time.

David, thanks for joining us today.

What are the core principles behind the ZAGENO marketplace?

What is most important for us is that we work relentlessly on making the customer supply experience better. And examples of that include things like increasing the product portfolio, improving scientific content, providing services to suppliers.

Ultimately, what we want to achieve is bringing scientists and suppliers together to accelerate scientific breakthroughs. Working with our customers we found that this can be achieved best through a tailored enterprise experience and services that we developed for both sides of the marketplace.

Ultimately, what we want to achieve is bringing scientists and suppliers together to accelerate scientific breakthroughs. Working with our customers we found that this can be achieved best through a tailored enterprise experience and services that we developed for both sides of the marketplace.

Tailoring requires a really deep understanding of specific customer needs. And we realized that we can best provide these services through an enterprise marketplace that is more private.

So, in early July, ZAGENO made the important decision to privatize the open marketplace. How is the ZAGENO marketplace going to evolve over time and what are the plans for the future?

We took the decision to make the marketplace private and remove public access to focus even more on providing a solution for the entire (industry of) biotech and pharma companies. One important part of that is to expand the size of our product portfolio and services offerings, even further.

And, just to be clear, we will, of course, grandfather all the existing customers into this new model and they will be able to continue to use the marketplace, as before. However, we will reach out to many of them and hope to hope to win many of them for our Starter, Pro or Enterprise plans going forward.

We very much believe that we can build even better scientific and supplier services as a result of this. And to give you examples, for scientists, we will especially focus on enriching scientific content and building out deeper integrations with the other workflow tools. And for scientists, we will focus on more tailored customer interactions and much more efficient integration services.

...we will, of course, grandfather all the existing customers into this new model and they will be able to continue to use the marketplace, as before.

You mentioned new services for suppliers. How did the supplier partners play into this equation?

For suppliers, I believe that this decision allows them to even better showcase their products and innovations and I really leverage their scientific content to reach the target audience.

We will continue to have the widest possible portfolio of products on the marketplace. This will allow suppliers to participate in our extremely fast growth, by reaching scientists in the decision-making moment. And overall, we think this is very important to nurture further our supplier relationships in a positive way.

Can you tell us more about what the future of scientific content will entail for scientists?

We will continue to relentlessly focus on what is important for the customer and will basically make decisions on what content is relevant for customers based on that.

One of the plans we have for scientific content is to develop even more partnerships to enrich the scientific content we already have. And with the target to really guide scientific product selection, ultimately, we plan to leverage this content to build a scientific community within an ecosystem that is private enough to openly exchange questions and share experiences around products in a very, very specific application context.

...ultimately, we plan to leverage this content to build a scientific community within an ecosystem that is private enough to openly exchange questions and share experiences around products in a very, very specific application context.

Sounds very interesting and very exciting for the future of ZAGENO. So, if I were a listener of this podcast and I wanted to learn a little bit more about ZAGENO as either a potential customer or as a potential supplier partner, where should I go?

The first thing you should probably do is subscribe to the podcast itself. I think there's a very interesting series from outside experts.

The second thing that I suggest is to check out our blog on blog.zageno.com

And third is reaching out to one of our scientific consultants to simply ask for a demo

David, thank you so much for your time today in explaining the evolution of ZAGENO's marketplace and the future of scientific content.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing all the ways in which ZAGENO will evolve this year.
