ZAGENO’s New Product Categories: Representing the Life Science Industry

        By Peter Grayson

As a life science marketplace, it is necessary for ZAGENO to provide the complete selection of products available to scientists in a clear and structured manner, while continually adapting to an ever-expanding industry.

Covering the entirety of the life science industry portfolio is not easy. The available products within the market are incredibly diverse and range from everyday consumables such as pipette tips to more specialty equipment like mass spectrometers.

Grouping such products together in an unstructured way only convolutes the scientists’ ability to search or filter for the products they need, let alone compare alternatives.

As a life science marketplace, it is necessary for ZAGENO to provide the complete selection of products available to scientists in a clear and structured manner, while continually adapting to an ever-expanding industry.

ZAGENO’s new product category layout does just that.

By mid-October 2019, our product category structure will expand to represent the entire range of products available in the life science industry.

        Major Product Category Improvements

        • Reordering of the top-level categories.
→ The new order reflects the general experimental workflow followed by life science researchers.

        • Purification, Electrophoresis and Blotting categories are now grouped under Sample Purification & Electrophoresis.
→ Products used together in the initial experiment steps are now located in the same category branch.

        • Genomics and amplification categories are now grouped under Gene Expression, PCR, and Cloning.
→ Second-step products commonly used in the same application can be found in the same category branch.

        • The creation of Molecular Assays, Labels, and Stains.
→ Apoptosis, Cell Viability, and Enzymatic assays are now clearly recognizable in the category structure and are easy for users to locate.

        • The creation of Instrumental Analytics & Services.
→ Analytical devices such as microscopes, mass spectrometers, and sequencers now have a distinct home that users can easily navigate to.

        • Lab Plasticware & Supplies is now split into Lab Equipment & Tools and Lab Consumables & Safety Wear.
→ Users can quickly navigate to general benchtop equipment (centrifuges, fridges, vortexers) or essential lab consumables (plasticware, pipettes, gloves) via independent and well-defined category branches.

...life science suppliers will benefit from a category structure that more accurately reflects the structure within their own organization, allowing more precise classification of their portfolio on ZAGENO.

As a result, our life science suppliers will benefit from a category structure that more accurately reflects the structure within their own organization, allowing more precise classification of their portfolio on ZAGENO. Our scientist users can, therefore, quickly identify the location of the products they need, including detailed category-specific information, and suitable alternatives.

You can access and navigate the entire category tree on ZAGENO via the ‘Marketplace’ button in the header. From there, users can drill down to their desired category of products, search within that category using the search bar, and then further narrow their results using the category-specific filters on the left-side panel.

You can explore ZAGENO’s new category layout in ZAGENO's Product Categories (PDF).
